Ethics & Sustainability

Ethics and Luxury are questioned, what are they, how can they fit with fashion?

Can luxury brands embrace Ethics as ‘The Luxury’? This was my question in 2006, and it began to expand.

  • a. A set of principles of right conduct. b. A theory or a system of moral values

  • Sumptuous or extremely comfortable living or surroundings: lives in luxury

  • Organic and fair-trade sourced fabrics are made into luxurious clothing with the processes gained from luxury brand artisans. Using local production, from retired craftsman from Burberry, Aquascutum and Dior in London to local artisanal tailors in Ghana.

Its seed was sown when Claudia visited a cotton farm and manufacturer in Ghana to see the production process. Cassava powder ( a delicious type of fibrous potato ) was used to strengthen the cotton threads, rather than chemicals. Organic cotton! Kinder to skin and people in the production team and the body’s wellbeing.

KIMONO SHRUG - A SLICE OF AFRO ECCENTRICITY

African Heritage prints originating from 1880s offer a unique aesthetic due to their wax crackle background. Speaking to the interconnectedness of family life. A Visual language of culture, each print is named by local fabric traders from various Akan tribes, so sometimes the names differ. Ruminate on the Fabric of Life, tell your own story in an elegant Kimono Shrug.
